Girl Events

Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois (GSEIWI) is so excited to be offering the a wide variety of events to more than 20,000 girls. Take your time looking through the Event Guides with tremendous amounts of opportunities for girls to participate in. You will notice that there are events being offered in every part of the council, and all events are open to any registered Girl Scout and any girl that wishes to join Girl Scouting.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

The Old Fort Event scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Ft. Madison, Iowa river front will be postponed until Fall 2008 due to flooding. The city has closed the park due to the increasing rise of water & the river is to crest again on Friday. Refunds will be issued. For questions, please contact Tammy Allison, Program Manager.

Girl Scout Photographers Needed!

Do you like taking photos? Attend Girl Scout events/programs? Need photography experience? Show off your photos in council publications!

GSEIWI's marketing department is seeking a few photographers. We would like to use photos of registered Girl Scouts within our council for our publications.

Photos need to be at least 300 dpi jpg's. Please send your photos (with your name, city, state, troop number and event information) to Jen Busard, Communications Manager/Graphic Designer at the West Burlington Service Center.

  • National Trails Day Saturday, June 7, 2008 National Trails Day inspires Girl Scouts and the public to enjoy their favorite trails and join forces with trail clubs, federal and local agencies, land trusts, businesses, and others to discover, learn about and celebrate trails. Engage in this event anytime through October 2008 by visiting the 2008 Environmental Events Calendar.
  • World Water Monitoring Day September 18 - October 18, 2008 (Girl Scouts from around the country learn more about their local water resources while taking part in a global water quality monitoring effort.)
  • National Public Lands Day Saturday, September 27, 2008 (Girl Scouts from around the country improve America's public lands.)

Girl Trips

2008 Trip to Chicago - Girls currently in grades 6-7 will have an opportunity to travel by charter bus to Chicago, Illinois, on July 7-9, 2008. Stopping points include: Brookfield Zoo, Hancock Building, Medieval Times, Navy Pier, Shedd Aquarium, Sears Tower, Six Flags Great America, and more! Cost is $350 per person and includes all transportation, hotel lodging, meals and admission fees. Register by May 1, 2008.

2009 Trip to New York City, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia - Girls currently in 6-11 grades (must be at least 13 years old on July 25, 2009) will have an opportunity to travel by charter bus to New York City, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia on July 25 - August 1, 2009. Stopping points include: Arlington National Cemetery, Broadway Show, Capital Building, CBS Morning Show, Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Monument Twilight Tours, Radio City Music Hall, Smithsonian Museums, NBC Studio tour, New York City tour, Planet Hollywood, Washington Monument, and more! Cost is $1,275 per person and includes all transportation, hotel lodging, meals and admission fees. Register by June 1, 2008.Cookie Program Credit accepted; Grants for Girls available.
