To: Members of Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois

From: Mary Lagerblade, Board Chair and Diane Nelson, CEO

We want to invite you to a very special meeting – the Annual Meeting for Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois (GSEIWI).   If you remember, almost 18 months ago we began this journey together, and at that time we made a pledge to work together to help GSEIWI give every girl the opportunity to join Girl Scouts and when she does – to exceed her expectations.

Part of keeping our council strong is participating in the governance process that guides the direction we travel.  Our new council has a new governance process that gives each and every member a voice in how we are governed, it is called “one member, one vote.”   Our by-laws require a quorum of 3% of our membership ages 14 and above to conduct a vote on council issues.  Our Annual Meeting will include issues for which we will require a quorum for voting.

We did a survey asking how the annual meeting would work best for you.  The majority said that having meetings in the evening during the week and at several locations throughout the council would work best.  So, that is just what we are doing.

An invitation was sent to every member age 14 and above with the eight locations throughout the council where we will be holding the annual meeting on Thursday, November 13. This meeting will be broadcast over the ICN, enabling everyone at those locations to actively participate in all discussions and voting.

Here is a glimpse of our meeting agenda. Click agenda topics for voting and additional information.

For those of you who have Service Area meetings on this evening and will not have the opportunity to attend in person, there is an option of email voting.  While we understand that face to face conversations are always best, and that we don’t want you to miss the dialogue that will be available, we also recognize the need to provide an alternative.   If quorum is not met, the email voting option will take effect on Monday, November 17.
